How to connect IFTTT to Google Home?
To Connect IFTTT to Google Home and access Smart Home automation. Make sure that you have all the mandatory requirements. You will need an account, and app and also set up Google Smart Speaker as it works on Voice Assistant.
Create an IFTTT Account
An IFTTT Account is really important to set up any device on this software to access customized automation. So, First – Register for your IFTTT account – Follow the steps below on How to do it.
- You can create an account on the official website –https://ifttt.com/or through the App.
- Enter your Email ID and Create a Password.
- Tap on Get Started and Complete the process.
- You can also choose to create an account with your already existing Google/Apple or Facebook ID.
NOTE: Since you are setting up IFTTT for Google Home, Create an account via the Continue with Google option, using your Gmail account. Use the Same Gmail account which you are using for the Google Home app.
Connect IFTTT to Google Home
Connect to the Google Assistant Integrations on the IFTTT, to create custom voice commands for your Smart Home devices. It is available on Android, iOS, and Google Home Smart devices.
There are two possible ways to connect IFTTT to Google Home. Either you can do it on the IFTTT App or directly on the Google Home app.
IFTTT App
The IFTTT App is available on the Google Play Store for Android and Apple App Store for iOS Users.
- On your Phone, Install the IFTTT App or Browse the IFTTT.com
- Create an IFTTT Account (if you do not have one already ). Sign in or Sign up using your account credentials.
- On the app/web, Search for Google Assistant.
- Select Google Assistant and Tap on Connect.
- Choose your Google Account with which you want to use the IFTTT. The Google account should be the same as you are using your Google Home /Google Assistant.
Google Home App
- Install and Open the Google Home app.
- Sign in to the app using your Google account credentials.
- On the app, Tap on the + icon and Click Set up device >Choose Works with Google.
- Search and Choose IFTTT from the list.
- Tap on it and Follow the onscreen instructions to complete setting it up.
- Click on Continue and On the IFTTT Website, Click on Authorize.

IFTTT Applets for Google Assistant
An Applet is referred to as an automation/integration between two services /devices or apps. Which enables you to do actions that those services or devices cannot do on their own. It provides interactive features to perform a specific task. On Google Home, Applets = Phrases + Actions -are used as the custom commands to control and operate your devices.
To activate an Applets and get the desired results from your devices, You will need to create an applet first. You can choose already existing applets or create one on your own. Create a phrase and a related action that is to be performed when the phrase is said. You can change and edit the applets whenever you want under the My Applets option on the IFTTT App. You can add any Google Assistant-supported device to the IFTTT. Follow the steps below;
CREATE A PHRASE :
Here is how you can Create a phrase or more to activate an action through Google Assistant.
- Enter and Add the required actions for IF THIS -and for THEN THAT.
- On the IFTTT App or website – Login and Tap on Create, and Select If This.
- Search and Select Google Assistant V2 as the trigger service.
- Create a New Applet on IFTTT from the list or tap on suggest a new trigger.
- Complete the phrases and tap on the create trigger.
CREATE AN ACTION :
Once the phrase is done, create the action that you want your Google Assistant to make when you say the phrase.
- Click on Then That, and Look for an action service.
- Follow the Onscreen prompts and Select an action.
- Tap on Create action and Finish.
- Change your trigger settings -Tap on activate scene, Name it, and Click Continue.
- Edit and add your required actions for all connected devices – Continue.
- Complete setting up the actions and triggers and name your applet to finish.
To activate the applet, Say Hey Google or Okay Google, Activate and say the created phrase.
You can also create routines on the Google Home app to activate Applets, It is almost the same -Phrase for an action.
- Open the Google Home app, Search for IFTTT, and look for the created applet.
- Now, Go to Settings and select Google Assistant.
- Tap on Manage, Choose all assistant settings, and click routines.
- Now, Create a routine for your smart home devices connected to IFTTT activated by voice.
- Click on Add action, Adjust home devices, and the Scenes.
- Choose any scene from the created IFTTT Applet.
- Click on Done and Save.
